Prime Minister's excuses for hike in sugar price:

1) the government could not effectively channel the subsidy to the intended needy parties. and you, despite the extra bucks you are expected to fork out, does not fall under needy category.

2) our law enforcers failed to curb smuggling activities, therefore you - the commoner gets punished.

3) sugar is bad for your health. the government is increasing the price of sugar primarily taking into consideration your health and well-being. (the lamest excuse i've ever heard)

Right, he is hoping that everyone is as stupid as his cabinet. Go figure.

I contributed this piece to a friend's blog February 2007 when our BN government OSA-ed the toll concession agreement, arrested 4 individuals under the OSA, and blacked-out the abusive behavior of law enforcement officers towards peaceful demonstrators.
A commentator at his site wished that this cartoon and incident to be remembered till the next General Election.

I hope this will serve as a reminder that someone who had the power to make a change remained his elegant silence and let the joker in the below cartoon claim that all is OK, allowed the law enforcers to beat the living daylights out of the peaceful demonstrators, and allowed the media to totally conceal what happened.

I find myself an unforgiving person when it comes to national interest. Yes, I feel damn patriotic and therefore I can't find myself to forgive those who turned a blind eye.

I don't usually do wordy blogs.

According to the Star dated 10 May, 2007, the Cabinet has ordered Maybank to withdraw their letter which states that panel law firms must have a bumiputra partner with at least a 50% stake before they could do any business with the bank.

Take away the specific words requiring 50% stake, and apply it on other panel partners/vendors/business associates that received the directives such as the letter issued to Panel Valuers below, would that be acceptable, then?

According to Bar Council chairman Ambiga Sreenevasan, “The level of equity is irrelevant. It’s still discrimination. No company has the right to stipulate the racial composition of firms that it will give work to; this is certainly no way to deal with professionals.”

What say you?

Update 12/05/2007: It was sighted on The Star that AmBank Group has withdrawn and apologized on the letter sent to panel lawyers, and Chinapress reported that the above letter sent to Panel Valuers by Maybank has also been withdrawn.

With toll hike, petrol hike, water tariff hike, and our recent announcement from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB)'s that travel and parking allowance and other company benefits are to be seen as part of our gross income from employment, and therefore taxable (click here The Star Online), I can't help but feel that the authorities are trying every possible petty attempt to make life difficult for common citizens like myself.

I am saddened with my inability to "change my life style" as per advise by someone rather significant in the country. I can't help but to think of silent ways to protest.
